Echo Canyon

"The rail". Some run it up.... can you?
Enter Echo Canyon Parkway east of Tatum Blvd. off of McDonald Drive. Parking is often limited. Trail ascends through spectacular sandstone rock formations and amazing views from the summit
While it may be shorter then Cholla trail, Echo Canyon has a 1264 feet elevation gain, in which most of it require stepping from rock to rock and not much of a trail. Unlike Cholla Trail that mostly is in wide open setting and valley view; Echo Canyon is narrower, surrounded by cliffs, boulders and rock formation.
Duration: For most day hikers, a round trip my take up to 2 hours. Often times you will see the die hard hikers who run up and down at under 40 minutes round trip.. Some make it to the top under 21 minutes.
Equipment: Good hiking shoes, hat, sun glasses and lots of water. We had our share of helping inexperienced hikers who failed to bring enough H2O, under estimated the mountain, the Arizona heat; resulting in sprained ankles, heat stroke and more.
We also ended up carrying an 80 lb Dog down the mountain.
Please use common sense when bringing a dog with you.
